National Green Corps [NGC]

The Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India has launched the National Green Corps Program (NGC) in all Districts of India. The ‘National Green Corps’ is an initiative aimed at spreading environmental awareness among school children and involving them in environment related activities. The programme aims to establish Eco-clubs in about 50,000 schools throughout the country.

School children, who would join these clubs voluntarily would not only be given theoretical inputs about environment but also be involved in environmental activities, which would bring them closer to nature. Under this programme 100 schools in every District in the country are to be involved. Each State/UT is provided with the services of one Resource Agency for the better implementation of the scheme. The main role of the Resource Agency is that of a consultant and a facilitator.
